I have been searching for this record passively for years and was very happy to find it here. Deerhoof is as Deerhoof does, if you know them you know what I’m talking about. I’m not going to go into a review of their music, or the record. Suffice to say this record is very Deerhoof and unique enough to be a honored addition to my Deerhoof discography.
What I would like to do, which is rare for me, is to sing the praises of Trustyspot. For clarification, what’s rare for me and a leaving reviews. I’ve had a Yelp account since 2015 and I’ve left a total of about 8 reviews. Good or bad, I’m just not that guy. I do not remember how I meandered into this portion of the interwebs, though it is not uncommon for me to be perusing sites of indee records shops or Discogs, even if it’s just to idly scan the album covers and view what’s available in rare piece of vinyl in the wild. Yes, I’m a junkie and my drug is vinyl.
Now, being the junkie I am, I’ve purchased vinyl all over. I’ve gotten records from local vendors, thrift stores, “vintage” stores, Craigslist, Discogs, eBay, even Reddit for godsakes. Also, for the sake of this diatribe it’s good to note in a ‘full disclosure’ kinda way my taste in music is diverse, eclectic, deep and expansive. I range from new and classic hip hop, to seventies prog (jazz and rock), from drone metal to EDM, and from classical music (not “classic rock” you meat heads!) to bluegrass. I do truly love all *good music. So when the fates would have it that I should have the good fortunate to have been caught in Trustyspot’s web, I should have know in that moment what a good thing it was. Though, Once here I have to admit I was at first a bit apprehensive. Great titles, all sealed, decent shipping costs, and a pretty diverse list of available titles. I can’t say exact ally what it was, but I put aside my trepidation and began to scroll through what was available. Much to my pleasant surprise, and my account’s chagrin, I found a really amazing list of titles. A few that some of my friends have been looking for, some stuff I already have but know are not easy to find… and then… it was there! Deerhoof’s “Holdy Paws”… and it’s New!? Like, in Mint condition! I couldn’t help myself. I bought it as soon as I saw it. Then, Right after I pulled the trigger I got a wee bit anxious. “What do you know about this on-line store?” I asked me. “You’re on the interwebs you n00b” and “Not a damn thing!” We’re the resounding answers from the logic side of my brain. So, I worried a little bit, well maybe more than a bit, but went back to my beer and barbecue anyway. Of course I got all the digital notifications one expects when one makes this sort of purchase, nothing that belayed or exacerbated my fears. However, when the record showed up less than 5 days later, I have to say, not only were my fears abated but I have to say, I was a might bit impressed. I can also say sonically, and ascetically this is a great Deerhoof reissue. So, to recap here; great selection, very fair prices, good web interface, a good return policy, inexpensive shipping, and a great and happy customer!
Remember you can find records just about anywhere (read the list above, which I must insist is by no means comprehensive). You can find records in great condition in many places. I’ve made some righteous purchases in thrift stores. But I tell you it’s not easy to finding a place that has the selection and the service that Trustyspot seems to. Really, for me that’s what it boils down to. Getting good service at a good price for a good product. I will be back!
*good music - knowing full well taste is purely subjective, I’m more than willing to debate the definition of that phrase. Especially with a beer or whiskey and some damn fine music!
