Mother's Milk went gold shortly after it was released in 1989, and is considered to be the Red Hot Chili Pepper's breakthrough recording. The Chili Peppers were the forerunner of the funk/metal/rap/punk style which was soon adapted by other bands. Originally released by EMI America, this fifth recording from the Chili Peppers was produced by Michael Beinhorn for Demolition Sound. Mother's Milk attracted mainstream attention with the great cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground.
